Episode 85 :: Kat Harris :: Stories of Singleness, Dating, and Sex as Followers of Christ
Today on the podcast I am diving deep with Kat Harris. Kat (aka the Refined Woman) shares her story of moving from photographer and fashion blogger, to coach and author, podcaster, and communicator tackling huge issues like singleness and sensuality, sex and dating and Christianity, and pursuing the heart of God as a woman who ultimately wants to honor Him with her life. Kat brings such powerful, honest and raw perspective in this conversation and in her book that just released last week Sexless in the City: A Sometimes Sassy, Sometimes Painful, Always Honest Look at Dating, Desire and Sex
We talk about the narratives that have permeated the church over the last decades, the confusion for women in particular that’s come from them, and her desire for there to be conversation that creates a culture of honor between men and women, without casting shame or judgement on either party, while also not casting all responsibility for purity for all people entirely on the shoulders of women… I mean. We just deep dive and its powerful. She shares about how the rules of purity culture created an environment of “rules without vision”, and that the Bible actually has A LOT to say about sex and relationships if we are willing to dive in and hear God’s perspective on it (which Kat is 100% down for and does beautifully in her book.)
I also want to thank some of my precious single friends who provided some questions for me to ask Kat in regards to navigating dating as a Believer in a world of apps, hookup culture and more. I can’t wait for y’all to hear what all she had to say, and her powerful questions for married friends and how we can better support, love, and encourage our single friends.
Wherever this episode found you today, friend, I hope that you know how loved you are. We have a God who cares about you as a whole person, and He has good for you. Christ came so that we may have life and life to the full. That doesn’t have conditions based on your relationship status. Whether you are single, dating, married, divorced: you matter. Your story matters.
